Crash Safety Technology and Biomechanics

The course starts with an overview of the history of the car and crash safety research.
It then methodically covers:

• Road casualty statistics
• The physics of car crashes
• Human anatomy
• Traffic injury
• Injury coding
• Impact biomechanics
• Crash test dummies
• Crash testing methods
• Legal requirements
• Consumer rating
• Engineering principles and function of car bodies and crash safety devices such as seatbelts, childrestraints, airbags etc.

The course is unique being multidisciplinary covering almost all aspects of crash safety. All issues will be dealt with from an international perspective.

Lecturer

President Hugo Mellander
Hugo Mellander, with over 30 years of experience in crash safety research from Volvo Car
Corporation and others. He has written a large number of scientific articles and lectures in the subject and he recently served as the president of The Association for the Advancement of Automotive Medicine.

Hugo Mellander has been granted the U.S. Department of Transportation Award for Safety Engineering Excellence.
